3.The predicative clauses. Subjunctive II is used in predicative clauses after the link verbs of being and seeming, the conjunctions as if and as though are used to connect the principal and predicative clause.

It seemed as though the silence of the night were getting on her nerves. – Казалось, как будто бы тишина ночи действовала ей на нервы.

You look as if you had not slept. – Вы выглядите так, как будто бы вы не спали.

4. The adverbial clauses

a. The adverbial clauses of comparaison. Subjunctive II is used in adverbial clauses of comparison after the conjunctions as if, as though.

He smiled as if he were amused by my joke. – Он улыбнулся, как будто бы моя шутка развеселила его.

He behaved as if nothing extraordinary had happened. – Он вел себя так, как будто бы ничего необычного не случилось.

b. The adverbial clauses of condition. Subjunctive II is used in adverbial clauses of unreal condition after the conjunctions if, on condition, in case. In such sentences the verb predicate of the principal clause has the form of the conditional mood (see section “Conditionals”).

5.Subjunctive II is used in adverbial clauses of concession and after the expressions it’s time (it’s high time).

Even though he were free, he wouldn’t go with us. – Даже если бы он был свободен, он не пошел бы с нами.

(Sometimes Subjunctive I can be used: It’s time that he should come here). Such cases of the use of Subjunctive II are very rare in modern English. In modern English after the structure “It’s time” the infinitive is used. It’s time for him to be here.
