Неожиданная кончина Арчибальда Дугласа обезглавила и без того сократившееся после отставки епископа Джона Камерона регентское правительство, а главное - лишила его общепризнанного авторитета. Возникшая новая конфигурация распределения сил в среде элиты шотландского общества действительно спровоцировала в июле - начале сентября 1439 г. весьма острый политический кризис. Однако эти события лежат за пределами хронологических границ периода регентского правления Арчибальда Дугласа, имеют собственную причинно-следственную основу и, соответственно, подлежат отдельному рассмотрению.
