Таким образом, хронический запор, будучи вторым по распространенности расстройством пищеварительной системы в развитых странах, представляет сложную проблему, с которой часто сталкиваются практические гастроэнтерологи. Современные диагностические методы позволяют клиницистам дифференцировать подтипы хронического запора и назначать дифференцированное лечение. Новые препараты, эффективность которых доказана в рандомизированных клинических испытаниях, расширяют терапевтические возможности в лечении хронического запора. В первую очередь, это касается прокинетиков, обладающих селективным стимулирующим эффектом на 5-НТ4-рецепторы толстого кишечника (прукалоприд), что помогает решать проблему хронического запора физиологическим путем.
